A&M-San Antonio administrators attend Board of Regents meeting Feb. 9 in Corpus

The Board of Regents of Texas A&M-University System are meeting today at A&M-Corpus Christi in the University Center’s Lone Star Ballroom A and B.Four members of the A&M-San Antonio administration are in attendance: President Maria Hernandez Ferrier; Provost Brent Snow; Chuck Rodriguez, vice president for strategic initiatives and development; and Kenneth Mitts, vice president for finance and administration.

The board will convene in open session to consider items including:

  • Approval of FY 2013 operating budget guidelines—A&M System;
  • Approval of a new Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program in advanced nursing practice, and authorization to request approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board—Prairie View A&M University;
  • Approval of a joint Doctor of Philosophy degree program in rangeland ecology management, and authorization to request approval from the THECB—Texas A&M University/Tarleton State University;
  • Authorization to offer a Doctor of Education in supervision, curriculum and instruction degree program via distance education at the Commerce Metroplex facility in Mesquite, Texas and the Rockwell ISD in Rockwall, Texas—Texas A&M University-Commerce;
  • Establishment of the Center for Railway Research—Texas Transportation Institute; and
  • Approval of the project scope and budget, appropriation for construction services, and approval for construction Physical Education Activity Program (PEAP) facility project— Texas A&M.

The board will hear remarks regarding:

  • Chairman’s remarks (includes welcome and recognitions, commitment to affordable higher education and system member highlights)—Richard A. Box, chairman of the board;
  • Chancellor’s remarks (includes report on agency and campus tours: academic program highlights, important research initiatives and campus building projects)—John Sharp, chancellor;
  • A&M-Corpus Christi update—Flavius Killebrew, president and CEO;
  • Presentation, “The Freight Shuttle System: An Innovation in Freight Movement”—Dennis Christiansen, director of Texas Transportation Institute;
  • Committee update—Regent Elaine Mendoza, chair, Committee on Academic and Student Affairs;
  • System construction projects authorized by the Board of Regents—Dan Kennedy, director of project planning; and
  • Presentation on the A&M System’s financial report for FY 2011—Greg Anderson, chief financial officer and treasurer.
