Carnival invites students to ‘Chillax’

Students can de-stress before final exams at a Chillax Carnival 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Central Academic Building, Suite 208.

“It’s a mix of chilling and relaxing to help reduce stress buildup with a more fun viewpoint,” said Mercedes Torrez, tutoring services coordinator.

Torrez said the Chillax-themed events started before she took the position in fall 2015.

Jaguar Tutoring will host the event and scheduled it on Thursday to make it more convenient for students to attend. Every semester, as finals loom, Jaguar Tutoring has a Chillax-themed event. Last semester’s event was Chillax Star Wars because it happened a week before “The Last Jedi” hit the theaters.

“So many other organizations on campus are doing things for the de-stress week, and our events are typically better attended if we hold it on a Thursday compared to a Friday,” Torrez said.

The carnival will include cotton candy and popcorn as well as traditional carnival games like the ring toss, duck match and a prize wheel. The duck match game consists of rubber ducks floating in a bucket, and the objective is to choose the matching number or symbol to another duck. Some of the potential prizes from spinning the wheel are highlighters and stress balls.

Jaguar Tutoring will also provide lemonade, paletas and chips and salsa. The event is held for four hours so students can have the chance of stopping by before, after or between classes.

Torrez said, “It’s our way of saying good-bye to the semester and get a little fun in before the craziness of finals.”
