The School of Business Advisory Board and the American Marketing Association are hosting an entrepreneur night 4:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks City-Base Campus.

Entrepreneur Night is the school’s bi-annual networking night designed to give students a head start in applying leadership skills. In the fall, the school hosted HEB Night. Employees were on hand to share their knowledge and experience with business students and explained the grocery chain’s operations.

Wednesday’s event, sponsored by the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, will focus on managing small businesses.

Syed Harun, school of business department chair, said the event is to provide students with professional connections and leadership and management advice from small business owners.

“Interaction with local businesses is truly why we started the School of Business Advisory Board,” Harun said.

He said the advisory board initiated contact with the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and asked if they would be willing to participate. He said they responded with interest.

The university has an active membership list with the Chamber. Douglas Carter, assistant vice president for university relations, is the former chamber chairman and past president of the chamber foundation, according to Sonia Imperial, vice president of membership development.

Imperial said she invited five businesses to be on-site to discuss the risks that accompany business ownership and management.

Business students will also be on-site to showcase their own business or service in the halls of Brooks Campus.

“The members of the advisory board are local businessmen and women who can provide an idea of what students need to learn in order to get a job once they graduate,” Harun said.

Marketing junior Carmen Ramirez said she will be at the event showcasing H.E.R.’s Original Bead Jewelry.

“The event is going to be a great opportunity for students to gain contacts in their field of study,” Harun said.

Ramirez, who volunteered to arrange presentations, said there are still a couple of tables left. To reserve a table, call 210-865-3492 or email mariac.ramirez@jaguar.tamu.edu.
