Network and Explore Job Opportunities (March 28-April 1)
Full List of Career Fair Employers
By Victor Morales and Patricia Sierra Barrios
You’ve heard it’s good for you to eat 5 full servings of vegetables a day? It’s just as good for you to take in 5 full days at Career Week. Career Services will host a variety of professional development workshops and career related events beginning on March 28 with workshop opportunities and ending April 1 with the Education Job Fair (9 a.m. – noon in the gymnasium at 1450 Gillette Blvd.) and on-campus interviews for Education majors (by appointment only). Education majors may participate in on-campus interviews by appointment basis only.
“Do your homework on these companies,” said Bennett Grey, career advisor for the Office of Career Services. “Understanding this process is important.”
“Be Professional,” Frank said. “First impressions are crucial.”
Students attending the Career Fair are encouraged to show up equipped with more than one resume, ready to convince the company of his or her qualifications.
“A Job Fair can start the essential networking process,” said Kathleen Frank in an email. Frank, one of two career advisors in the Office of Student Engagement and Success added, “It is a chance to meet with an employer face to face, make a positive impression, and give them your well-polished resume.”
Students atttending other institutions are welcome to attend. TAMU-SA is part of an organization called S.A.C.U.C.C.A. (San Antonio Colleges and Universities Career Center Association). This organization includes all Alamo Colleges and some of the surrounding area universities.
Being part of an organization like this allows students from other campuses to attend the TAMU-SA Career Fair and allows students from TAMU-SA to attend different career fairs throughout the area if unable to attend the event on March 31. Sharing resources is a benefit to all students in the area.
“Last semester 91 students were in attendance,” said Grey, who hopes this year’s attractive list of employers will draw greater attendance. “Hopefully we could double that this time around.”
