Latino Film Festival returns to Guadalupe February

By Kevin Johnson

The 2017 Cinefestival returns to the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Texas Friday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, March 4, 2017. CineFestival is the longest-running Latino film festival in the United States and San Antonio’s original indie film festival.

Cinefestival celebrates 40 years of Chicano, U.S. Latino, Mexican and Latin American filmmakers and the culture and heritage involved in being one. Like Hollywood, Cinefestival rolls out the red carpet, as the filmmakers and actors step down, proud of the work they’ve done.

After the films show, filmmakers talk with their audience, describing the experiences and difficulties filming. The festival offers an experience that visitors will never forget for a lifetime as they embark upon the journey of discovering the essence of Latino films such as “The Mask of Zorro” directed by Martin Campbell or “Selena” directed by Gregory Nava.

The event will be held in the Guadalupe Cultural Art Center’s historic theatre at 1301 Guadalupe St. Since 1980, the Guadalupe offers traditional and contemporary Chicano, Latino and Native American arts and culture to its visitors. Its vision is to “revolutionize how we see the world.”

Tickets can be purchased for eight dollars a piece in person at the opening day of the event or online here.
