Apparently five French tourists are more up-to-date on the happenings of San Antonio’s late-night party scene than the rest of us. I never got an email, tweet or text about it but apparently there’s a hip new party spot that just opened up downtown: the Bexar County Courthouse. And Wednesday’s grand opening was quite a spectacle.

The event was attended by a small but popular group of Frenchmen who made the most of their visit to the Alamo City by donning sombreros  found in a Bar Association storage closet (as reported by the San Antonio Express-News) and enjoying a game of tag in the hallways.  Drinks were consumed, jokes were made and fun was had by all.

Camille Huet, Meissa Mithra, Adil Ajjaid, Mehdi Ajjaid and Hicham Ajjaid were Wednesday’s guests of honor. The group partied up and down the halls and even took a moment to indulge in the authentic courtroom decor of the club by taking up a gavel to make judgement on the new club.

“Le palais de justice est fantastique,” one member was heard saying.

True, the courthouse is fantastic — so much so that the revelers were given a full police escort after they departed.

With a turnout this big for a late-night party it’s a sure sign that the courthouse will be a popular place to visit in San Antonio for a long time to come.
