New CAB president introduced

The Campus Activities Board has a new president after the former president stepped down last week.

Rene Orozco announced his resignation as president at the board’s meeting, Nov. 5 in room 218 of the Central Academic Building. Elora Molloy, former vice president, will replace him as president.

“This is my last act, I guess you could say, of starting the meeting for CAB,” Orozco told the 10 members who attended. “So I just wanted to say thank you so much for the honor and privilege to work with y’all and to be CAB president. It’s definitely been an experience and definitely something I will cherish throughout my years.”

Orozco did not say why he resigned at the meeting. He did not respond to calls or emails from The Mesquite.

Molloy said she sees the change as an opportunity for her to help enhance the Campus Activities Board on a campus that has shown continued growth.

“I want to see how we can improve,” she said. “This is supposed to be one of the biggest organizations on campus alongside of SGA because we’re school sponsored. So that’s why I want to build it up.”

The board has two openings for officers: vice president and secretary. Anyone interested in the roles should go to the CAB office, suite 103 of the Central Academic Building.

“You’ll be greeted by a guy at the front named Hoyt; he’s gonna basically tell me that you’re here and you’ll just go to the back to tell me you’re interested,” she said. “Then we’ll work out to see if you would best fit this position.”

The Campus Activities Board, also known as CAB, organizes events and programs such as Fall Fest, Stress Busters, Open Mic Night, Laser Jag Tag and others.

To continue organizing such events, CAB emphasized the importance of member outreach and discussed better ways to initiate recruitment.

“I feel more membership is important because that’s basically how any organization can grow,” Molloy said. “With more members that means we have more of a reason to be here and come up with more events that students can enjoy.”

If students are interested in attending a meeting or joining the Campus Activities Board, general meetings are held 4-5 p.m. every Monday in the Central Academic Building in room 218. JagSync will also show any of their upcoming meetings and contact information.

While the semester may be coming to an end soon, the Campus Activities Board still has many events scheduled for the rest of November.

“Karaoke with CAB” is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14 in the cafeteria.

“Cartoons with CAB” is 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 in the Science and Technology Building, Room 242.

CAB will also have a station set up for “Lights of Esperanza” 4-8 p.m. Nov. 27 in the courtyard of the Central Academic Building. The CAB station will have ceramics to decorate, reindeer and a sleigh to take pictures with and a petting zoo.

Molloy has created event assessment forms for students to give feedback on previous events. They can be found in the Campus Activities Board office.

“If you attended one of these events and you would like to give CAB some feedback on it, how it went over with you, what all we could’ve done to improve — that way we can make the next event that we possibly do even better,” Molloy said.
