School of Business offering fall pre-reqs taught by Alamo Colleges faculty

By Victor Morales

The School of Business is offering four lower-division pre-requisite courses in the fall semester. The courses, typically taken by students enrolled in the Alamo Colleges as part of their lower division coursework, will meet Saturdays at Brooks City-Base Campus as part of a hybrid course.

Participating in the hybrid courses will require enrolled students to attend classes every other saturday during the semester.

Courses include ACCT 2301, Principles of Accounting I, Northwest Vista College; ECON 2301, Principles of Macroeconomics, San Antonio College; MATH 1325, Math for Business and Social Science II, St. Philip’s College; and COSC 1315, Fundamentals of Programming, Palo Alto College. Classes will rotate in the morning and afternoon depending on when the course is scheduled.

“We are providing a service to our students who currently still need the pre-reqs,” said Dr. Tracy Hurley, division head of business. “Our intention was to involve all four Alamo Colleges.”

The courses will be taught by Alamo College instructors. Students who are in need of these courses would still have to register with the Alamo Colleges to register for the classes.

Hurley said that A&M-San Antonio will provide the classroom facility space.

We’ll have a different four courses in the spring semester if this goes well,” Hurley said. “Other classes could be added from the other schools on campus to be taken at Main Campus in the future.”

The students who are taking these courses will have a chance to set foot on the campus possibly for the first time. The hope is to draw interest for those students to attend A&M-San Antonio.

“We hope to use this as a recruiting tool for students who are not part of the University,” Hurley said. “We hope the students will choose us.”
