Slideshow: Martin Luther King March 2016

By Alejandra Sol Casas

An estimated crowd of 300,000 people marched down Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on Monday. This, according to the city of San Antonio MLK Jr. Commission, is the largest turnout ever in the 29 years that the march has taken place. Historically, San Antonio has held the largest MLK march in the country.

Prior the march, several events were held throughout the week in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy called “Dream Week.” Events included an airing of Selma, symposiums, speeches, workshops and galas.

Alejandra Casas
It was in my freshman year of high school that I discovered a love for photography and fell in love with the telling of true stories. I became assistant editor of the school’s yearbook and photo editor of the newspaper. I spent my free time and summers taking part in the San Antonio Express-News Teen Team and attending the two-week long Urban Journalism Workshop at San Antonio College. Now that I attend Texas A&M-San Antonio, I feel that I’ve found an institution where I can enjoy a great education within my field which will help me reach my artistic and professional goals.
