SAN ANTONIO — (brief)
Construction began for the new 14,000 square-foot YMCA located on the South Side of San Antonio. The two-story community center opens spring 2017.
Many South Side residents say they are excited about the amenities the YMCA will bring to their community, including a workout area, a kitchen to teach healthy eating classes, and multipurpose rooms.
“It is going to be great,” said Teresa Brown, a South Side community member for over 10 years. “I will be able to use all the programs the YMCA will offer. I would definitely enjoy it.”
The center, located behind the Mission Branch Library, will be named the Harvey E. Najim Family. The City of San Antonio approved a bond of $2.5 million dollars and The Harvey E. Najim Family Foundation, amongst other private donors helped pay for the $5 million dollar YMCA facility.
“The YMCA will bring many other options to keep our children busy with extracurricular activities,” said Irma Gutierrez, South Side resident.
