Save a life, donate at university blood drive Nov. 13-14

The Office of Student Activities will sponsor a Thanksgiving Blood Drive from 9-2 p.m. on Nov. 13 and 14.

The drive will take place outside in parking lot #2 along the curb closest to the auditorium.

Donors are required to be at least 17 years old, 110 pounds or more and in good health. Sixteen year olds can donate if they weigh at least 120 pounds and provide a parental consent form.

“We encourage everyone to register the week before the event so the blood bank that comes can plan accordingly,” said Jessica Medina, Student Activities Coordinator for Texas A&M University–San Antonio.

Medina added that the Pre-Health Society, a co-sponsor of the blood drive, will host a booth on campus the week before allowing students to sign up and participate.

The Thanksgiving Blood Drive is one of many that A&M-San Antonio hosted in partnership with the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center this year.

“Adding extra promotional flyers and a student organization co-sponsor has helped to increase the blood drive turnout,” Medina said.

One A&M-San Antonio student encourages her classmates to participate in the upcoming event.

“Just imagine if one of your family members or you needed blood. You would like for someone to provide blood for you,” education junior Dalia Guerrero said.

Medina also encourages students to participate this holiday season.

“With everything going on in the world, there is a higher need for blood donations,” Medina said. “Donating blood allows you to give back and potentially save a life.”

Students and non-students who participate will receive a complimentary T-shirt upon donation.
