SGA attends national student government conference

By Laura De Leon

Members of the Student Government Association attended their first American Student Government Association sponsored conference Feb. 15 in New Orleans. The student government training conference is designed to train student leaders from across the country to improve or enhance their student governments. SGA President Melissa Quintanilla said four executive members and one adviser attended the conference. In an interview Feb. 20, she said members learned conflict resolution strategies, techniques for networking with other universities and colleges across the nation, and how to market their own student government organization. Members returned with resources and digital files from the conference, which they plan to share with current and future SGA members. Plans to attend the national conference were announced in October, 2012 and funding was provided by SGA’s university approved budget.
